Sexual Conduct Policy

At QuanWessels Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Mixed Martial Arts Academy (QW), we are committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and family-oriented environment for all members of our community, including students, staff, coaches, and visitors of all ages. As part of our dedication to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and professional atmosphere, we have established the following guidelines regarding sexual conduct.

QuanWessels Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Mixed Martial Arts Academy’s Policy on Sexual Conduct:

1. Respectful and Professional Behaviour

All individuals at QW are expected to demonstrate respectful, professional, and courteous behaviour at all times. This includes refraining from any actions or language that could create an uncomfortable or inappropriate environment for others.

2. Discouragement of Casual or Non-committal Sexual Encounters

While we understand that personal relationships may form naturally in any community, it is important to recognise that QW is a family-oriented space where minors and young children are present. As such, casual hookups, non-committal sexual encounters, or any behaviour that could be perceived as inappropriate or disruptive to the atmosphere of the gym is discouraged. We ask that all students, staff, and coaches exercise discretion, modesty, and professionalism in their interactions.

3. Coaches and Students - Professional Boundaries

Coaches are strongly discouraged from initiating romantic or sexual relationships with students. These relationships can create conflicts of interest, disrupt the professional dynamic, and cause disharmony within the community. If a relationship between a coach and a student occurs and ends poorly, or if it becomes disruptive to the atmosphere of the gym, it may result in both parties being asked to leave the community. This could lead to the termination of both the individual’s membership and coaching privileges. We encourage coaches to maintain professional boundaries to ensure the integrity of the gym and the well-being of all members.

4. Zero-Tolerance Policy on Sexual Harassment

QW maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy towards sexual harassment in any form. Sexual harassment—whether verbal, physical, or visual—undermines the integrity of our community and will not be tolerated under any circumstances. This includes, but is not limited to, unwelcome advances, inappropriate comments, or any other behaviour that creates a hostile or uncomfortable environment. We are dedicated to maintaining a safe and respectful atmosphere for all, and prioritise the safety and well-being of everyone within our community.

Sexual harassment includes, but is not limited to:

  • Unwelcome sexual advances, gestures, or comments.
  • Requests for sexual favours in exchange for favourable treatment.
  • Displaying sexually suggestive images or materials.
  • Verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature that creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment.

5. Conduct Around Minors

We have a responsibility to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all minors at QW. Any conduct that could potentially undermine the integrity of this environment—including overt displays of affection or inappropriate behaviour—will not be tolerated. It is essential to be mindful of the presence of minors when engaging in any personal or social interactions.

6. Respect for Personal Boundaries

All individuals must respect personal boundaries, both physical and emotional, at all times. Any form of harassment, whether verbal, physical, or sexual, is strictly prohibited and may result in disciplinary action.

7. Investigation Process and Disciplinary Action

Upon receiving a complaint or report of sexual harassment or contravention of this policy, QW Management will conduct a prompt and impartial investigation. The investigation will be carried out with sensitivity and confidentiality to the extent possible while ensuring a thorough and fair process. 

Failure to adhere to this policy will result in a review by management, and in cases of serious violations, disciplinary action may be taken, including suspension or termination of gym membership or employment or coaching responsibilities. If staff or coaches are found guilty they will be held legally liable for loss of business, revenue and punitive damages to QuanWessels’ reputation.

8. Reporting and Accountability

We encourage any instances of observed or experienced sexual harassment or abuse in violation of this policy to be reported immediately to QuanWessels Management. 

9. Review and Revision

This policy will be reviewed regularly to ensure its effectiveness and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Updates will be made as needed to reflect changes in best practices or circumstances.

10. Legal Compliance

QW is committed to complying with all relevant laws and regulations concerning sexual harassment, including those related to reporting requirements and confidentiality.

At QW, our goal is to create a safe, welcoming, and professional environment where all members, including students, coaches, and staff, can thrive. We prioritise mutual respect, the well-being of our community, and the safety of all individuals—especially minors—who engage with our gym. By adhering to the principles outlined in this policy, we ensure that QW remains a place of learning, growth, and positive interaction for everyone.

We ask that all members, students, coaches, and staff recognize their role in fostering an atmosphere of respect and professionalism. By maintaining appropriate boundaries, promoting kindness, and adhering to these guidelines, we can work together to create a supportive and harmonious community for all.
