It was another busy weekend for the QuanWessels grappling team & affiliates, with Submission Kings WTA 3 taking place on Friday night. The team emerged victorious with 3 wins in 3 matches; while affiliates gyms claimed a further two big wins.
First up was coach Guy Lazarus in the gi. With a slow start, he managed to pick up momentum and claim the back and dominance over his opponent. While he could not secure the finish in regular time; he showed a cool head to seal the deal with the faster back escape and take his spot as the No.1 bantamweight in the promotion.
This was quickly followed up by young Aidan Griffith with a sublime heel-hook over a game opponent. A stand-out performance to launch Aidan into the light heavyweight rankings.
Last but not least saw hard-working Raymond Acutt in a combat Jiu-Jitsu fight. “Razor” Ray finished the fight with an elegant triangle submission to take the win and finish off a clean sweep for the team.
A massive shout out to our affiliates at Constrictor BJJ’s & Apex Sports. Abdel Ghani (Constrictor) won with a last-minute heel-hook submission and won Fight of the Night honours. Sascha Robinson claimed victory in a hard-fought battle that went to over time. Watch the full event below.
